Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that utilizes needle therapy to help reduce chronic pain and inflammation. At PrairieShore Pain Center, acupuncture is used to effectively treat chronic pain and give patients relief that can last for months after a complete course of treatment.

During acupuncture therapy, thin needles are inserted into specific points throughout the body in order to stimulate neuro-vascular nodes known as “acupoints.” By activating these points, acupuncture treatment can help the following:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Low back pain
  • Reduce Pain
  • Reduce Inflammation and Swelling
  • Increase Blood Flow
  • Reduce Muscle Cramps and Spasms
  • Promote Relaxation and Reduce Anxiety
  • Decrease the Side Effect of Medication-Induced Nausea

Acupuncture involves the insertions of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. Many practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. Some believe that this stimulation boosts your body’s natural painkillers. When placing the proper needle, it will stimulate and control pain, while at the same time promote healing, which leads to better function. Many injuries respond well with minimal intervention.

Needle Therapy works primarily because of its linked to the belief that disease is caused by disruptions to the flow of energy interaction in the body. It stimulates points on or under the skin called acupuncture points or acupressure points, releasing this qi (vital energy). This is then believed that “Harmony brings health, wellbeing, sustainability” and “Disharmony leads to illness, disease, and collapse”.

Acupuncture is often an ideal way to treat acute and chronic pain because it alters the body’s neurochemistry in a non-invasive manner without medications. Flare-ups can be successfully treated with a short course of additional treatments.
